Uk Saltwater fly fishing Species

Pollack

Species Pollack Theragra chalcogramma

Shore Caught record 18-04-00 Abbotsbury Beach Dorset C Lowe 1986
Boat record - 29-04-00 Dungeness Kent W. S. Mayes 1987
Fishing season -All year although Febuary to November are the most productive for the inshore fly fisherman
Likely Shore Locations - Most Pollack will be encountered rock fishing .

Look for Deep gullies with bladder wrack and plenty of cover . I have however had a few Pollack in shallow water in Bright sunlight
Geographic area -Pollack are distributed around most of the UK coastline.
Methods
Pollack are ambush predators and will attack a fly from below often with lightening speed. Dawn and Dusk are great times and locations that have been dead all day can come alive just as the Sun turns Gold prior to Sunset. The Brighter the Sky the deeper they seem to go. At Dusk I have had 20 or 30 fish in as many casts using Charteruse Gurglers drawn across the surface with a two handed retrieve.

Flies
Clouser Minnows Size 1 - 4 # Orange and Black , Charteruse and White. Bon Bon Baitfish any thing that catches their eye. Try surface lures around Dusk and await the Acrobatics!!
